Mariah Carey’s :”Through the Rain” is a very special song to me.The song was included on the album Charmbracelet.The song speaks of how no matter what obstacles you reach in life you can make it.It also tells of how no matter if you are alone that you can stand up and make it on your own.We have all had moments when we have felt that no one is there for us and that we are soldiers fighting a war by ourselves.This is an uplifting song for us all.The song hits home at the times when you need it to and it truly makes a person feel better.

                The five elements of the rhetorical situation are purpose,audience,stance,genre,and medium/design.The purpose of this song is to reassure people that when they are down they can get back up and feel strong again.The audience is anyone who feels alone or afraid.The genre is rhythm and blues.In this case the genre affects the tone of Mariah Carey because rhythm and blues is already a nice,smooth,and soulful sound and this song conveys relaxtion.I consider Carey’s stance to be passionate.She expresses this song in a way that makes listeners feel that everything will honestly be okay.The medium and design of the song is spoken and electronic.Carey sings her words and we hear them by listening to the radio,her cd,ect.
