Why I Became a WSU Raider

What brought me to Wright State University? There are numerous schools over the United States and yet I chose a school in Ohio. I could have chosen to stay in state where I would have been closer to home or I could have chosen an HBCU (Historically Black College and University). Yet I ended up here…

                A college tour brought me to Wright State in my junior year of high school. I had never been to Ohio and I was ecstatic. I visited Central State University, Wilberforce University, and WSU. When I saw WSU I knew it was the school for me. The campus is nice and it doesn’t seem entirely too big. Also,the amount of students is just right. There aren’t so many students but there aren’t too much. WSU is only five hours away from home and I feel that is just the right amount of distance.

                I love how WSU has a tunnel system. The tunnel will really come in handy for the winter and it is very easy to maneuver through. It also helps on those really hot days! The food on campus is also really good and the location is perfect. There are numerous hotels located near the campus and there are plenty of eateries. The mall is also 5 minutes away!

                So far WSU has proved to me that I have made the right decision. I hope that I will continue to feel this way throughout m entire academic journey! Go Raiders!

Through the Rain:Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey’s :”Through the Rain” is a very special song to me.The song was included on the album Charmbracelet.The song speaks of how no matter what obstacles you reach in life you can make it.It also tells of how no matter if you are alone that you can stand up and make it on your own.We have all had moments when we have felt that no one is there for us and that we are soldiers fighting a war by ourselves.This is an uplifting song for us all.The song hits home at the times when you need it to and it truly makes a person feel better.

                The five elements of the rhetorical situation are purpose,audience,stance,genre,and medium/design.The purpose of this song is to reassure people that when they are down they can get back up and feel strong again.The audience is anyone who feels alone or afraid.The genre is rhythm and blues.In this case the genre affects the tone of Mariah Carey because rhythm and blues is already a nice,smooth,and soulful sound and this song conveys relaxtion.I consider Carey’s stance to be passionate.She expresses this song in a way that makes listeners feel that everything will honestly be okay.The medium and design of the song is spoken and electronic.Carey sings her words and we hear them by listening to the radio,her cd,ect.

Love

What do you think about love?Do you believe that love can come at any age?Do you believe in “love at first sight”?What is love?Is there really a one sentence definition that can sum up all of what love is?

Defined by Dictionary.com love is a profoundly tender,passionate affection for another person.This is true but love can be so many more things.An abundance of people would not settle for this true but somewhat simple definition.If a 16 year old is in love is it really love or lust?I believe love can come at any age and that the definition of love is how you define it.Adults feel that when young adults claim that they are in love that they are just talking and do not have any idea as to what love is.Why is this okay when there are people who are in their late thirties who have had numerous relationships but are still is confused when it comes to love.Also,why is that people who have fallen in love with say 5 people are considered people who wear their “heart on their sleeve”.Why are they considered those kinds of people if according to Dictionary.com as long as you have a passionate affection for someone it is love?

Is “love at first sight” true?Why not?There are times when you first see someone and you just know that they are that special someone that you want to spend the rest of your life with.Your eyes sparkle and your heart beats slowly because that one glance hinted that you just found your future.I have no doubt that “love at first sight” is real because when it comes to love ALL things are possible!
