One book left...



If I could save O N E book for future generations, what would it be? There are so many books to choose from and I can only pick just O N E?!

The book I would choose to save is a dictionary. I choose a dictionary because this book includes many, many words and it would create many intelligent people of the next generation. The dictionary is a great book to choose because it is something that will never fail to brighten a future. Dictionaries include so many words and it would take a while to become familiar with them all. Reading the dictionary could become very fun. A game could be made to remember definitions. Also, new words could be made that might be able to be in future dictionaries.

The dictionary may be somewhat boring compared to Harry Potter or any other book that is interesting. I could’ve chosen Harry Potter, Zane, or R.L. Stine but the dictionary is ensured to educate!

“Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat!” Carved pumpkins, costumes, parties, and lots of candy mean its October 31^st. Halloween!

Halloween is an enjoyable holiday. It’s a day to dress up and be the creepiest character or your favorite character from television. There are so many costumes to choose from such as, Lady Gaga, Mario, and the all times favorite…witches! I like Halloween because it’s a time when people can be someone in a fun way. What I dislike about Halloween is it can be a Very unsafe holiday. Many predators take this as a time to kidnap children. Also, some people poison candy and this causes parents to be reluctant about having their kids out going door to door. I trick or treated as a child and it was fun. I remember being a princess with my crown and wand. My mother would take me to neighborhoods and watch me very closely. Whoever takes a child trick or treating has to be sure to watch the child because many children wear the same costume on All Hollow’s Eve.

One fond memory I have of Halloween is going to a party that was thrown by my mother’s job. It was a great party and on the way home I remember my godfather’s nephew throwing up in the car. It was so gross!

Halloween is a nice holiday. It’s the time when all the Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger movies come on and it means Candy! Candy! Candy!

What Would I Change About WSU?

If I could change anything about Wright State University what would it be?Why would I want changes made to WSU?If there was anything I could change here I would add more food choices.I would also make the school more excited about things happening on campus.

Why would I add more food choices when we already have Taco Bell,Pizza Hut,Burger King,and even more places in the Student Union?I would add more food choices because after a month of eating from these places I am already sick of the food.A Wendy’s on campus would be nice and even a McDonald’s.Yes,we do have these places right across the street but our dining dollars are not excepted there.We also have a Taco Bell across the street and one here in the Hangar.Also,adding a Starbucks would be a great idea!There’s nothing like a vanilla bean frappachino from Starbucks!

The school also needs more excitement.When there are upcoming events we do receive emails and there are some flyers around but there is still no sense of excitement!I want to feel that these events will be the best event that I could ever attend.Even at homecoming we should be able to have a celebrity attend.Many other schools(mostly HBCU’s)receive the joy of a celebrity at events.Why can’t we?

Wright State University is a wonderful school.It has a beautiful campus and it is very welcoming.There is nothing wrong with the way things already are but there is nothing wrong with new things being added!

Process of Revision

The revision process in English has been very helpful.In my original drafts I feel that I wrote in an okay manner, but there is always room for improvement.When you first write something you are displaying what you feel at the time.The way you feel about what someone said may change after a week.When I revise I feel that I have learned more about my writing and I am able to expand on the subject at hand better.Receiving a teacher’s or peer’s comments is very helpful and it causes me to bring more out of myself.It also causes me to think deeper on what I am writing about.I feel that the drafting process is something that is much needed.It helps because students are able to perfect their work.Constantly revising helps create a better writer.The drafting process is making a huge difference in my writing.It helps me to think more about how I compose my writing.My instructors comments are also very clear.These comments help me to see how my writing comes off to readers.So far I am not having problems with the revision process.I feel that going through a process of typing,revising,and typing again is better than just turning in a paper on its due date.

What does Mr.Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec want people to think,do,or feel about this particular painting?Maybe he wants everyone to begin kissing because this man and woman are.Maybe he wants onlookers to feel a sense of intimacy while staring at this portrait.With this panting I think Toulouse-Lautrec wanted to reach every human being.Every has shared or will share a kiss with someone in their lifetime.The individuals in the painting seem to be sharing a very passionate kiss and the portrait is very alluring.Young children kiss family members and even each other.Also,teenagers and adults kiss mates.The world is the audience of this painting.The audience could also be people who are sexually involved.The couple are on a bed and this kiss could lead things elsewhere.This genre is a portrait.The design elements that this portrait has are bright and vibrant colors.The red and orange colors cause you to focus on the portrait and it lures you into the kiss.Toulouse-Lautrec is passion.Red is a powerful color and it symbolizes heat.There is heat going on in this picture because the kiss looks very hot.I believe that any other viewer of this portrait would agree with me and receive the stance of this picture the same way I have.The medium and design is a portrait.There were powerful colors used in this painting and the effect of the painting is also powerful.

Throughout Toulouse-Latrec’s career he has created created 737 canvases,363 posters and prints,5,084 drawings,and 275 watercolors.He was a master at crowd scenes and the treatment of his subject matter has been characterized as dispassionate and sympathetic.

How Would It Be Without TV?

                Would being without television cause our children to be more or less healthier? I feel that watching television has no impact on health. I watch television every single day and it has never affected my health.Also,some television shows are educational and teach children many helpful things.And whether television is watched or not it has nothing to do with independence.

                According to CNN Health,the average child spends about 25 hours a week in front of a television.They state that “more time spent in front of the television is linked with poorer school performance.”They also go on to say that “television hands kids all the answers, promoting passive learning and short attention spans.”

                Fitness.ygoy.com offers a list of health effects that come from watching television. They affirm that obesity in children has been linked to the amount of time spent in front of a televison.They even claim that diabetes also results from constant exposure to advertisements which promote the intake of sugar and fatty food.Also,they report that continuous fatigue and headaches are the most possible outcomes of watching too much of television.

                After reading information from these websites,I now believe that television does have powerful affects on our health.I do not agree with everything I have read but I do have a broader outlook of television’s effects. There is at least one television in every home and this should be taken very seriously.It may not have effects on one person but it is obvious that it can have affects on another one.

The Powerful Ways of Ads

What kind of power does advertising have on you,me,the entire world? Advertising has plenty of power of people. Ads are everywhere!They are on billboards,magazines,television,and radio.Seeing ads such as covergirl,aeropostale,and different shoe ads cause us to indulge in shopping for such products.Victoria’s Secret is an example.Victoria’s Secret is a somewhat expensive store yet women love it.The name is big and that is what makes women want to shop there.We see the bra commercials and fashion shows and we flock to the mall so we can be seen in the new biofit bra.Victoria’s Secret does have quality though.

               

 Advertisements include everybody to get viewers to notice the ad.Women are used in most ads because of the greatest “sex sells” phenomenon.Women are shown in ads with little to no clothing and they are focused on more than the product.They are used in beer ads and other men based products.Women can win over men with their sexiness and it is used to lure men closer to products that need to be sold.

There are ads that have positive messages but they are hard to notice because people tend to focus more on ads with half naked people.Some positive ads are Aids ads that show superwoman dying and with people engaging in sex who are headless.These are powerful ads because they really speak to people and encourage them to have safe sex.Superwoman is very powerful yet Aids got her.

All ads have power because we are all affected by thwm.They either encourage or discourage and people pay very much attention to them.
